NEW TESTAMENT PRAYERS

Introduction

We are so glad you are joining us for these daily prayer posts. Over the next few weeks we are going to listen to the prayers we find in the Bible, and some of God’s most faithful saints and servants. Through their prayers, we will learn better how to pray and connect with our heavenly Father.

Each devotion will take less than ten minutes of your time.

  1. We will look at an insight from those who know something important about prayer.
  2. We will listen to the prayers of people in the Bible—people just like us. And to people who gained a deep measure of spiritual intimacy with God because they prayed.
  3. We will reflect, asking the same four questions each day that invites us to look and listen with intent.
  4. And we will pray, for it is in praying that we learn to pray. And it is in praying that the Spirit changes our hearts.

We want to encourage you to grab a journal or a notebook – something to write on as you walk through each prayer guide. Yes, it will add a few minutes to the time it takes to do the devotion, and it will also deepen your experience and shape your walk with God for years to come. This journal or notebook will be a keepsake to remind you of God’s faithfulness during this challenging season for all of us.

Look

“I place no hope in my strength, nor in my works: but all my confidence is in God my protector, who never abandons those who have put all their hope and thought in him.”
– Francois Rabelais

Listen

Jude gives us a wonderful doxology with a personal application. Now: presently, at this moment, God is able to protect you from stumbling. This is not some whimsical thought constrained by a want-to-be power. This is protection from the ultimate Power. Blaise Pascal said, “The property of power is to protect.” That is what God does—He protects us!
And: There is more, get ready, hold on. He is able to make us stand in the presence of His glory—blameless with great joy! Nothing can keep us from our hallelujah-filled destiny of life in His space—awe-inspiring, worship-promoting, heart-filled joy with God our Father!

Jude 24-25

“Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless and with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now and forever. Amen.”

Reflect

1. Having read the Word, sit silently for a minute and give God’s Word a moment to settle within you.

2. Re-read the verses slowly and write down some thoughts that resonate with you.

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to take you to a deeper place of worship! (for example: what words can you add to “the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty . . . ?”) Let the Spirit give wings to your heart to soar!

4. What thoughts come to mind when you give yourself time and focus to praise your incredible, loving Creator?

Pray

Protection and presence are two vital pieces to Christianity. God protects us because He loves us. He brings us into His presence redeemed because He created us for fellowship. Let Him know how much you appreciate His work in your life and praise Him for the work that is still to come. Can you think of someone who is outside His power and presence for lack of faith? Pray for that person’s salvation. After all we are blessed to be a blessing.
