Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?
John 1:1–4 reveals that Jesus is far more than a historical figure or moral teacher—He is the eternal Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Long before humanity’s long history of broken promises, Jesus already existed. He is the God whose character never changes, whose promises are unwavering, and whose faithfulness stands in stark contrast to our own imperfections.

For ages, humanity has grappled with keeping promises. We falter, we forget, and we choose ourselves over God. This sin earns us separation from the One who created us, the very One through whom “all things were made.” Yet John tells us that in Jesus was life—the life we were created for, the light that shines into our darkness. He steps toward us not in condemnation, but in rich mercy, offering what we cannot earn and do not deserve.

Jesus came to earth to “seek and save the lost.” The eternal Word became flesh, entering our brokenness to rescue us. He lived the sinless life we could never live. He sacrificed Himself on the cross to bear the punishment our sins deserved. And three days later, He rose from the grave, offering complete forgiveness and new life to anyone who turns from sin and places their faith in Him as Lord and Savior.

So who is Jesus? He is the eternal God, the Creator, the Light in our darkness, the fulfillment of every divine promise. He is the One who gives new beginnings. And when we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, He welcomes us into the hope, healing, and freedom only He can give.
